We are proud to have a great team of people working aboard Huskyan. Teamwork really is the key to providing the best service possible.

Ben Wade & Emily Turton

Huskyan is owned and operated by Ben Wade and Emily Turton – both can be found at the helm.

Emily holds a MCA Masters ticket for vessels <200gt, an RYA Commercial Yachtmaster ticket and a Boat Masters licence for passenger vessels. Ben acts as our skipper/engineer. He is a commercially endorsed RYA skipper and holds a MCA Boat Masters licence. He also has a degree in Ocean Science and a Masters Degree in Marine Resource Management.

Emily lectures in Maritime Studies for the University of Highlands and Islands here in Orkney and has guided many other local skippers through their MCA Masters Orals exams. She is also an RYA Instructor. Emily is a skilled cook and is the brain behind Huskyan’s famous catering.

Wreck History is an obsession for both Emily & Ben, especially when the focus is on WWI battleships! Their passion for the WWI shipwrecks sunk in Scapa Flow is unrivalled and when not working they can usually be found scuba diving.

Russ Evans

Russ Evans acts as a relief skipper/guide and will join us aboard from time to time. He holds an MCA Masters ticket for vessels <200gt and an RYA Commercial Yachtmaster ticket.

Russ has been leading expeditions on passenger ships to remote parts of the world for the past 12 years, specialising in taking visitors to polar regions and cold water destinations.

As well as Russ’ passion for expedition travel, he works as a skipper on small commercial vessels, including survey, research, towage, marine renewables and yacht charters.

One of Russ’ favourite destinations outside the Polar Regions is the Scottish Islands, offering some of the best small boat cruising in the world, amazing scenery and wildlife.

Ross Dowrie

Ross is our crew. He joined the team for the 2015 season all the way from Canada and will be on deck again in 2016/17. He holds STCW safety qualifications and is working towards his first skipper’s ticket.

Ross is a qualified mechanic and a diver with many years’ experience diving in cold water. Ross loves being on the water and has swapped the Great Lakes for our beautiful Scottish Islands. He is onboard to make sure everything runs smoothly. Ross is a competent boat handler. He is responsible for all deck operations and housekeeping and makes a cracking cup of tea!
